West Island Chronicle, October 3rd, 2007
Indie acoustic-rocker Marc Gelinas will be promoting his first CD at Cunnigham’s Pub in Ste. Anne de Bellevue this Sunday night.
Gelinas, a West Islander, released his 12-track CD
‘Waiting at the Red Lights’ this summer. Key tracks include ‘Smolder
Me’ and ‘Call Me Vegas,’ the latter inspired by friends who named their
baby Vegas.
‘Call Me Vegas’ has become fan favourite, Gelinas said, adding
it explores how a person’s fate may be influenced by what their name
is. He describes his music as acoustic rock-pop and his influences
range from Paul Simon to Led Zeppelin.
“It’s very competitive out there and very hard with no record
label backing,” Gelinas acknowledged, but added being an indie artist
has its benefits.

So Jesse and I were discussing the fact that I have a concentrated number of friends, family & fans in the West Island of Montreal. We were toying with the idea of doing a CD Launch in the West Island, in advance of staging one downtown. So it was a funny little coincidence to hear Jim, the proprietor of Cunningham's Pub in Ste Anne de Bellevue, suggest the exact same idea to me when I first approached him about playing his fine establishment.
And so it goes...
The Marc Gelinas Band will be holding an informal West Island CD Launch on Sunday, Oct 7th at Cunningham's Pub (75 Ste Anne's Rd). We'll be laying down the album live, as well as showcasing some originals not on the album, and playing some clutch covers to boot. It goes without saying that the album will be available at the show. Admission is free, and since nobody works the following Monday (being a legal holiday, unless you are breaking the law!), I do expect to it to be a really fun, local (and loco) party.
The show starts at 9:30 pm; the good times start when you get there...
Hope to see everyone out,
Marc

So I want to thank everyone who showed up at the band's debut show at Grumpy's on Aug. 11th (Yes, I know it was eleven days ago...they've been a crazy eleven days...that's my story and I'm sticking to it). A good time seemed to be had by all, and it was great to get the first show jitters out as a unit.
That said, we've got our follow up show on Friday, August 31st at Brutopia (1215 Crescent St). We'll be playing three sets starting around 10 pm, and working our way into the night. I'm stoked about it because I always love playing and/or drinking there. There's a wild vibe to the place and a neat two floor view of the stage. Plus the home brews are cheap and fantastic (my fave: the scotch ale). So come on out to see a band in it's developmental stages...always exciting!
Also, I'm hitting an acoustic set this coming Friday, the 24th at Grumpy's alongside fellow musician Jimmy Cacchione. Now that the band is up and rolling, these acoustic gigs allow me to showcase other songs not yet rehearsed by the trio, or stuff that I feel like pulling out off the cuff. Should be a fun night for sure.
And as usual, the debut album, 'Waiting at the Red Lights' will be available for purchase at both shows.
So we'll call it a date then?
Cheers,
Marc
